case study one - The diamond stone

The myth

The diamond stone    source: Wikipedia

The myth, first discovered by Wiltshire Phenomena Research co-founder Sharon, says that the diamond stone of Avebury crosses the road at Midnight. An amazing feat as the stone weighs around forty tonnes! The diamond stone is situated in the 'outer ring' next to the Swindon-bound A4361 that runs through Avebury.

Another myth that surfaced during our research is the story of how small figures have been seen moving within the stones in the moonlight, singing and chanting is heard by locals at nighttime and a woman called Edith Olivier heard music and saw lights amongst the stones whilst driving through the village at night. She took the lights to be those of a fair but there wasn't one being held there. Numerous reports of interference with electrical items when around the stones have been recorded for many years.

Our study

Wiltshire Phenomena Research will spend two months observing the diamond stone and the surrounding areas to see if they can experience first hand any of the phenomena and oddities that we all hear so much about in local legends and myths about the Avebury complex.

Will the diamond stone move at midnight? Will the team see and hear the small people moving around between the stones? Will their electronic devices fail? Might they experience the fair that Edith Olivier did? Who knows, only time will tell...

Check the website for the teams progress with this case study over the next few months. Our research will begin when the UK weather improves.
